‘Tideline’ are a series of images shot on the Indian Ocean coastline of South Africa. My fascination with this interstitial place where ocean, sun, wind and earth meet is deep and goes back to spending whole afternoons exploring the rock pools and tidal zones of Sea Point as a child.
This series started life as a few images shot in the Knysna coast, but to complete the series I explored the False Bay side of Cape Point and other coastal nooks and crannies working to match the feeling of images that tell a big story through a small detail. Some of these images work well as individual pieces, but their true beauty (for me, at least) is when they’re together. Together they have the same beautiful patterns of seeming randomness that makes the intertidal zone such a rich and ever-changing micro landscape.
